Main development factors of the SEZ


Pointe-Noire is strategically located between Pointe-Noire Bay and the Atlantic Ocean and offers multimodal connections through an international airport and rail and road networks. The area of the SEZ is characterized by the presence of a 510 km railway network linking the coastal region (which houses the autonomous port) with the rest of the country. Moreover, the region is well served by a vast road network linking it with other major economic centers of the country such as Brazzaville (about 510km), Dolisie, Mont-Belo, Zanaga, etc.

The presence of basic physical infrastructure provides connectivity to several major cities across the country via national roads, regional roads, railway network and air links. The region's extensive road network includes important national roads, namely the national road 1 (N-1) connecting the region with Brazzaville via Dolisie, Nkayi, Madingou, etc., the N-4 linking the region and country with The Cabinda in Angola, etc. And the N-5 linking Pointe-Noire to Gabon. Pointe-Noire also has connectivity with other regional centers and mining centers such as Mbinda, Mayoko, etc.

The SEZ is strategically located close to the country's only seaport. A backbone of the Congolese economy, the Pointe-Noire autonomous port is located on the western coast of Africa, along the crossroads of the major maritime routes to Europe, Asia and America and represents approximately 85 to 90% of the country's general freight traffic. In addition, the port is currently being extended to facilitate the development of freight and transport needs in the future.

As a transit and break-up port, the autonomous port of Pointe-Noire has a deep sea reception capacity and makes of Pointe-Noire the main center of the economic and commercial activity of the Congo. The presence of this port makes Pointe-Noire a leading transshipment center in Central Africa ;

Taking advantage of its existing synergies, the city of Pointe-Noire has become the largest industrial center in the country, home to many factories, small and medium-sized enterprises. The region is home to the country's only operational refinery (CORAF).

In the coming years, with the region becoming a manufacturing hub and improving the various transport infrastructure, the logistics sector will be ready for accelerated growth. The future special economic zone is expected to result in a large generation of freight, mainly due to international and domestic trade activities involving faster movement of goods.
